It seems like things have been quite hectic this fall. With little time to primp from one thing to the next I’ve had to consider ways to revise my beauty routine in a way that I can take a look easily from day to night, or that requires little time to pull together. Based upon my ongoing love affair with red lipstick, I didn’t have to consider my options for long before I realized that a statement lip was my answer. A red lip quickly takes a look from day to night and requires little other makeup in order to look complete. In fact, there has been many a night in the last few weeks where there has been little time for me to re-do my makeup before heading out to dinner with my p.i.c. or out with friends. Rimmel’s cherry red color Alarm (much stronger and more matte than the reds here and here), which I rediscovered in my hoards of lipsticks, looks perfect with a dusting of blush and curled black eyelashes. Instant glamification for even jeans and a t-shirt.

It seems that there has been an upswing in nail art, and with all the different glitters and rhinestones and patters, how could a resist such a trend? As if we didn’t need yet another amazing option to attempt to recreate, check out China Chow’s amazing reverse french mani with a bit of flare from NYFW. I most certainly will be attempting this look very soon.

Remember those hair tools that looked like big plastic loops on a pointy handle, and the amazingly awesome twisty ponytails you could make with them? I certainly do — that thing, whatever it was called, was my best kept hair secret in 3rd grade. Looks like Rodarte may have been a fan as well. And thanks to the Mulleavy sisters, it is now acceptable to break out my special hair wand again, as they have reinvented the twisty ponytail in an ever so cool, slightly messy, yet oh-so-chic type of way. Not only is this look is a great alternative to the standard low ponytail and perfect for second day hair, but it is a simple yet very effective way to break out of a hair rut.

Though I love myself an eyeshadow palette, it is rare that I happen to love all of the colors included in the palette, with one shadow that I wish I could switch out, and one that I love so much I want to hoard the quad just to make sure I never run out of the limited edition color. This is not the case with M.A.C.’s eyeshadow quad in Lady Grey. Each color in the quad is so appealing for a different reason. The light pink (All Races, bottom left) is a great alternative for a highlighter; the matte finish makes it especially good for the work week. The purple (Tendersmoke, top left), is an excellent contour color, and with its matte finish, is also great for the work week or as a liner when applied with a wet brush. Finally, the shimmery taupe and greenish grey (Lady Grey and Hazy Day) look so pretty alone with a single swipe across the lid, as a base with a little Tendersmoke in the crease, or as the accent in the crease to a base of All Races. Though the colors look slightly intense in the picture, they appear more muted in person. As if I didn’t love M.A.C. already, this quad is just another reason.

Now that it is starting to feel like fall is rapidly approaching I am gravitating towards darker nail shades again in lieu of summer brights. I am totally taken with the new ”it” Chanel polish in Graphite. The shade of grey is just right — not too dark, not too pale, and the perfect amount of glitter (natch). I happen to be wearing this shade on my toes right now, hence the pictures from Bazaar online. I am debating what my next purchase will be as Chanel’s current line happens to have a gorgeous shimmery green called Peridot and the prettiest neutral shade of sparkly sand called Quartz. Which one is your favorite?
A little more inspiration for the weekend….

Have a good one my lovelies. Go be fabulous!
I am always excited when fashion week rolls around. I love seeing all the colors, textures, and patterns that will be hot. The array of images from the catwalk, beauty backstage, and all the glamorous parties provides so much inspiration for me to re-imagine my wardrobe and compile my new list of must-haves. However, street style plays a large role in inspiration for me these days as well.

I came across these photos which provide such wonderful inspiration for transitioning my wardrobe from summer to fall. I love all the gold and red with the dash of plum in the photo above.
And how fabulous is this combination of leather and lace?

It is rare that I dedicate a post, when not discussing an item of the month, to one item in particular. When perusing the fall catalogs, I came across this bag at Saks and was immediately captivated — so much so that even though I was mid-sentence in a conversation with Big Dog, I completely lost my train of thought and trailed off, forgetting that I was even talking. Dramatic? Very. Deservingly So? I think, yes.

I think it is the simplicity of this Yves Saint Laurent bag, mixed with the utter glamour of the supple leather, understatedly cool brass “Y”, and the strikingly different color of this bag (which still remains quite neutral), that have totally enraptured me. This bag seems just perfect for a work event, as it is large enough to fit all of my technological necessities, but not so overwhelmingly large that its not absolutely perfect to run errands and look ever so chicly cool at the same time. I think I have found my must-have bag for Fall.
PS — I am so sorry to my dedicated readers for the brief hiatus! I am back now though!

I seem to be developing a very bad habit of forgetting to pack some form of lip color on my most recent business trips. This newly developed absentmindedness ultimately leads to my search for a nearby drugstore so that I can at least pick up a cheap neutral gloss to get me through. On my most recent trip I realized in the airport that I had yet again forgotten lipstick. Since the realization sent me into a panic in which I had horrible thoughts of dry and crackly lips for the 6 hour flight, I decided to check out the duty free shop for something. I impulsively bought Chanel’s new line of lip product, Coco Shine, in Antigone. Though I am certain I have never pulled the trigger on a lip color so quickly (I often debate the purchase of a color at the counter as if I were making a life altering decision), I am considering whether this blitzkrieg-type buying should be my new adopted method of shopping since I could not be happier with my purchase. While wearing my new lip lacquer, my lips maintained the perfect amount of shine — not too glossy (in my opinion - inappropriate for business functions) and not at all matte. Plus, while the color looks intense in the tube, it gave off just the right amount of sheer rosiness. I have since turned to this color for a day of errands, a night out, and a day and work, and the color has been perfect for each setting.

I am always looking for a way to display my necklackes that does not involve them laying in a tangled ball for me to pick through and then fight to detangle. In an effort to resolve this issue, I painted this corkboard with silver paint to jazz it up (I am still in search of pretty flowers to put in a corner or two for some added pizzaz), and hung my necklaces on the corkboard with some neutral silver thumbtacks. Hanging my necklaces like this has allowed me to search them easier, which in turn helps me avoid gravitating to the same few far too frequently, and also creates a pretty display for a big blank wall in my closet. What’s your favorite way to organize your necklaces?
